Compassion in Action - Mike Durst
"I know this is a calling," Mike Durst says of his position as Men's Counselor in the Mission's Emergency Shelter. "It's not just a job; it's a divine appointment God gave me."
Mike is one of the first to welcome men coming off the streets seeking a warm bed or nourishing meal at the Mission. "I get to work right in the front lines, hands on. I get to see the men when they are really in need, and enter that need with them and minister to that need."
During his 19 years serving the homeless through this ministry, Mike says the issues facing homeless and addicted men have changed, but our response has not. "We do more than meet the physical needs. We take the opportunity to lead that person to Jesus Christ. Only God can change these men's lives."
