A New World of Giving
City Union Mission is exploring ways to turn your company’s unwanted goods into much-needed cash to fund our life-changing ministry to the homeless. If your company has excess new or lightly used products, is going out of business, changing lines or must remove old products from the shelf, consider donating the goods to the Mission for resale.
Right now, we’re turning a semi-truck full of building supplies into funds for the homeless, says Development Director Dennis Chapman, giving an example of how some companies are donating goods to help the Mission raise funds. Another company is giving us mattress sets to resell because they are able to make extra sets at no additional cost.
When companies donate goods to the Mission, they receive a charitable tax deduction and may decide how they want the funds generated by their donation to be used within the Mission. They can earmark the money to go to one of our foundations, or they can create their own foundation. They can create a charitable remainder trust, Dennis explains. We even have naming opportunities for large donations.
