Compassion in Action - Steve Isaccson
As the EMS chief for the Overland Park Fire Department, Steve Isaacson is used to seeing people in need. But as he toured our Men’s Shelter on a bitterly cold day, he was amazed to see hundreds seeking shelter in our Day Room.
"I was blown away at the number of people there. I was so overwhelmed by what I was seeing," said Steve, who asked Pat Brodnax, our volunteer specialist, what he could do to help. She told him we desperately needed bath towels, so Steve contacted hotels to see if any could donate towels. He received an enthusiastic yes from the Overland Park Marriott, which now donates towels and linens on a regular basis.
The day Steve delivered the first load of towels donated by the Marriott, the Mission had just used its last bath towel. "God stepped in through Steve and provided for our needs!", Pat says.
"City Union Mission is there on the front line, opening their doors to people you wouldn’t normally open your door to," Steve says. "I thank God they are there."
