Churches Make a Big Difference for the Homeless
If you want to get some strange looks from people at Wal-Mart, fill up a shopping cart with underwear, laughs Jim Vetter, recounting the day he and his wife, Rose, purchased hundreds of packs of underwear for the Mission.
The Vetters were shopping on behalf of the Primetimers, an adult Sunday school class at Colonial Presbyterian Church, which has partnered with us this year to help meet some of the Mission’s most urgent needs. In January, the class donated blankets pillows, sheets and towels. In April they provided underwear and toiletries. This summer, they will sponsor at least one child at Camp CUMCITO.
The class is very enthusiastic about helping the Mission, Rose says.
Colonial Presbyterian Church has partnered with the Mission for years by providing financial and volunteer support.
City Union Mission offers the cup of cold water in Christ’s name to the needy of Kansas City in a professional and Christ-honoring way, says Phil Truesdale, a pastor at Colonial.
