From the Desk of Dan Doty
Does the Bible say anything about homelessness or poverty coming to an end? Unfortunately, I’m not aware of such a promise. The Bible does state pretty clearly that there will always be poor people in our communities.
Deuteronomy 15:11 says, For the poor will never cease from the land. Jesus makes this clear again in Matthew 26:11 when He said, "For you have the poor with you always". Clearly, there will always be a need for ministries to the poor and the homeless.
In 2004 we continued to see an increase in the number of men, women and children coming to us for help. We’re sheltering more homeless men every year, which has caused a serious space problem. We are simply out of room for our men’s programs.
We celebrated 80 years of ministry in 2004. As I think about the hundreds of lives that are changed here each year, then multiply that by 80 years, the total is both mind boggling and very exciting!
In the coming year we need your help in meeting both our current needs as well as our future need for additional space. As homelessness increases, so does our opportunity to help turn people to God, where they will find permanent solutions to their overwhelming problems. Thank you for your prayerful support!
Sincerely,
