Shawnee Mission School District to put on "Empty Bowls" Event
December 22, 2005
Shawnee Mission School District Empty Bowls Event - Twenty-two schools in the Shawnee Mission School District will host Empty Bowls, an event to raise money to feed the homeless and hungry in the Kansas City area. Each patron may keep one bowl that teachers and students have created. Attendees will enjoy a musical ensemble, an art display, a silent auction, and dinner, including soup, salad, and dessert donated by Panera Bread. Students will coordinate the evening, including organizing the dinner and decorations. Empty Bowls was started by a high school art teacher in Michigan in 1990 to help his students raise money to feed the hungry. The event will take place on Feb. 13, 2006.
