The 17th Annual BWAM "Run For The Homeless" Was a Big Success!
May 07, 2006
(Kansas City, MO)  Early Sunday morning riders could be seen all over the city heading north to Kearney where they planned to meet up with other riders from all over the Midwest to raise money for City Union Mission. Each of the bikers gathered pledges for the day, and thankfully, there was no rain for them as they rode the 100 miles from Kearney to our Men’s Center in downtown Kansas City. Besides the planned program awaiting them, a beautiful show of unique motorcycles grew with each arrival of the 485 bikers.

Jim Buchner, the biker who raised the most money in pledges to help the homeless and poor, was awarded two free airline tickets donated by Southwest Airlines. The second place for the most pledges was Ray Shneider; he walked away with a donated custom made knife by W.M. Knives.

Teddy Bitner, BWAM Facilitator and President of Cycle Disciples presented City Union Mission Executive Director, Daniel Doty with a check for $20,629.70 from the pledges raised. The program was filled with live music presented by Bar Judah, Randy Davenport, Jody Jarrett with Streams of Mercy, and Not Forgotten. The riders heard testimonies throughout the day from six clients who have experienced the life changing power of Jesus Christ through the mission’s long-term programs for men and women.

In addition to the more than $20,000 that was raised in pledges, an additional $1,600 was raised in the form of t-shirt sales, photo sales, and raffles of custom knife, custom paint helmet and leathers. This additional money has helped cover the expenses of the event itself, leaving abundantly more of the money raised to go directly to help the clients of City Union Mission.

Like the last 16 years, the poor and homeless of Kansas City will be greatly impacted with the hard work and caring hearts of the bikers who participated. With the money raised, necessary items such as glasses, medication, bus tickets, utility bills, and state identification cards will be possible for our needy clients. What a grand contribution to the cause of City Union Mission!
