Kansas City Baptist Temple helped kick off City Union Mission’s Capital Campaign "Awareness Month" this June with a gift of $15,000. Dan Doty, Executive Director of City Union Mission, visited the large metro church on June 2nd for the check presentation.
"The number of men coming to our shelter for a bed each night is increasing," said Doty. "This building project is essential, and we are truly blessed by the support of Kansas City Baptist Temple and other local churches that are joining us in taking care of our city’s poor and homeless."
City Union Mission’s "Building the Walls that Rebuild Lives" building campaign will more than double the shelter’s capacity for both overnight and long-term care. Pastor Jeff Adams, senior pastor of Kansas City Baptist Temple, also lent support back in April at a capital campaign tent rally where the building campaign was introduced to local churches. He commissioned attendees to do their part in taking care of the needy.
"If every Christian in Kansas City gave just a few dollars, we could completely take care of the homeless population in Kansas City," encouraged Adams.

June has been designated as the focal month for fundraising projects among the church community, but the fundraising push will continue throughout the summer. Churches from all over Kansas and Missouri are invited to be a part of this special fundraising effort. For ideas on how your church can get involved please click here!
City Union Mission's capital campaign "Building the Walls that Rebuild Lives" is focused on meeting an increasing demand for services. In the 12 months from January through December, 2004, the Hotline for the Homeless turned away 3,381 individuals who needed safe shelter for the night, sometimes many nights in a row. Our hope and prayer for our capital campaign is to provide for the immediate needs of our guests now and in the future.
