FOLLOW-UP RESULTS: Third annual CrossRoad 5K Walk/Run benefit for City Union Mission, dedicated to the memory of John Vinyard, a compassionate giver to Kansas City's homeless, raised $6,500 for City Union Mission, yesterday, Sunday, April 17, 2005, from 8-9:30 a.m. at Corporate Woods in Overland Park, KS. Over 350 walkers and runners helped raise funds for the homeless and poor of Kansas City through registration fees and donations. Over 100 tennis shoes were also collected for men, women, and children in need.
Karen Whitson, coordinator of the event, said, “We put this event on to give back to our city by supporting City Union Mission. We appreciate the work they do for the homeless and poor, and that their goals are focused on Christ. We also wanted to encourage youth to create healthy habits now, which is one of the reasons for the kids’ dash. Our motto for the race was Philippians 4:13, ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ We wanted to show that you can do anything with Jesus. It was our chance to put this verse into practice.”
