Mike Feekin, Facilities Director, was shopping for propane gas to fill tanks for barbecue grills when he encountered someone who had his life changed because of City Union Mission. Mike relates:
We’re having cook-outs at the Centers and needed propane gas. I called several places to get costs. New tank prices ranged from $35 to $55, and for a fill they were $14 to $28. I went to one of the places I had called with the two tanks that needed to be filled or replaced.
When I got there the man told me the tanks could not be refilled, as they were out of date. He gave me a price on a new tank and a fill. He then asked me if I was with a company. I told him I was with City Union Mission, and that the tanks were for a cook out for the Men and for the Family Center. He then asked me again and I told him I was with the Mission.
He said that about two years ago he was homeless and came to the Mission for help. He could not say enough good things about the Mission, how they gave him Christ, food, clothing and shelter. He said he would give me the tanks and gas for free, and then he asked me if there was anything else he could help me with. I told him I did not want to push my luck, but that I really needed three tanks of gas. So, he gave me three new tanks filled with gas.
