The 2006 Barnabas Award for Church Ambassadors
August 15, 2006

City Union Mission presented Ed Golden with the Barnabas Award for Church Ambassadors.

And Joseph, a Levite of Cyprian birth, who was also called Barnabas by the apostles (which translated means, Son of Encouragement), and who owned a tract of land, sold it and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet. Acts 4:36-37 NAS

Adam Mosser, Church Relations Specialist explains:

Just as Barnabas gave of his time and finances to the work of the Lord, this Ambassador gives his time and resources in order to bring his church into a greater awareness of City Union Mission, and thus help support this ministry in the inner city. The award is given to one of our Church Ambassadors who have shown exemplary performance in the fulfillment of his or her duties. This person goes beyond that which is required, exercising passion on behalf of the Mission’s vision.

In order to qualify for this Award, Ambassadors would be:

  • A Church Ambassador for, at least, one year
  • A High Impact Volunteer for, at least, one year
  • Demonstrate good punctuality and dedication in their area of service
  • On time for volunteer opportunities
  • Have attempted or did help during a specific time of particular need to the Mission
  • Have brought his or her church into a new area or level of giving or volunteering

When Ed was asked what was the most rewarding aspect for him in being a Church Ambassador, he replied, "Getting the church involved and linked into Missions and doing the will of the Lord."

Ed Golden is a member of the Overland Park Church of Christ. Since becoming a Church Ambassador his church has adopted a Hy-Vee store to work with the Stuff A Truck Program. In the past year they have given close to 12 to 13 truckloads of clothes and other charitable items. They also have participated in the "Paper Please" drive, donating thousands of rolls of toilet paper.

"Ed has been willing to be of service whenever there has been a need," recalls Adam.
