(KANSAS CITY, MO November 2006) On Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 6:45 p.m. City Union Mission will hold a Veteran’s Day chapel service at its Men’s Center, 1108 E. 10th St., KCMO (corner of 10th and Troost), to honor homeless veterans.
Retired Army Col. Gary Sanford, Pastor of Rock of Ages Chapel, will offer a special message.
Homeless veterans will be seated at a special table and will be recognized during the service. Approximately 25% of men in homeless shelters claim to be veterans; 41% of those men say they were involved in the Vietnam conflict, according to Rev. Stephen E. Burger, Executive Director of the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions.
In the Kansas City area there has been a growing number of people needing shelter at City Union Mission. With Kansas City’s help City Union Mission will continue to meet these growing needs. City Union Mission’s CELEBRATE HOPE – Reach Out to KC’s Poor and Homeless campaign is an effort to raise $3 million dollars, nearly half of the Mission’s annual budget, by January 15, 2007. All financial donations (tax deductible) are greatly needed and appreciated.
