What would you consider the most vital possession you have? Could it be a wedding ring or a family portrait? For most of our clients at City Union Mission, the most vital possession they have is the Word of God. We want to ensure that every person who wants a Bible is given one.
Every single year, City Union Mission goes through 500, hard-backed New King James Version Bibles in its Men’s and Family Ministries. This number, moreover, does not include the youth who participate in programs at the Vanderberg Youth Center or kids who go to Camp CUMCITO.
Thanks to two local Metro area churches, Bibles can continue to be distributed to those that want them. First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit, MO and Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty, MO each donated Bibles that will help us meet our yearly need.

Lee Berns, Director of Men’s Ministries, accepted the Bibles on behalf of the Men’s Ministry. "It is because of Metro churches like First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit and Pleasant Valley Baptist Church that we are able to give our clients the greatest gift we could ever give them, the Word of God," said Lee. "We are especially grateful for these churches helping us meet this very specific need for hard-backed New King James Version Bibles because this is the resource we use in our recovery programs."
Adam Mosser, Church Relations Specialist, added, "This is the most recent example of how Church Ambassadors and their church congregations have impacted City Union Mission's programs and ministry. I so appreciate their dedication. When churches realize that they can partner with us in so many different ways to reach out to the poor and homeless in Kansas City they get excited. Working together really does make a difference for God’s Kingdom!"
