August 24, 2005 (Kansas City): City Union Mission is still nearly $650,000 behind on its annual budget. The ministry, which assists the poor and homeless of Kansas City, has seen a decrease in contributions, while the need for services is soaring.
“If you can help, please send the most generous gift you are able to,” said City Union Mission’s Executive Director Dan Doty. “It’s going to take all of us working together as a community to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the poor and homeless.”
City Union Mission has felt a decline in giving as donors in the Kansas City area are feeling the sting of salary freezes, escalating gasoline prices, and inflated food costs. Many have been forced to adjust their charitable giving, particularly after the devastating tsunami in Asia.
At the same time, economic difficulties have hit the homeless and poverty-stricken, leading more individuals and families to seek assistance.
City Union Mission has been forced to slow down its spending. If it doesn’t meet its budget, it cannot continue to meet the growing needs of the poor in Kansas City during the holiday season. It is the homeless men, women and children who will suffer.
To give, please call 816-474-9380, visit www.CityUnionMission.org, or mail your gift to: 1100 E. 11th St., Kansas City, MO 64106. Donations are tax-deductible. Isaias Cervantes, a former homeless guest who now spends his time ministering to others, said, “Keeping a place like City Union Mission open is well worth the time and money of people who want to invest in the lives of people.” |
