Sunday, April 1, 2007 Midland Adventist Academy hosted its 5th CrossRoad 5K walk/run to benefit the homeless and poor of Kansas City. All proceeds go to City Union Mission. CrossRoad 5K is fast becoming a local tradition. This year approximately 500 participants “put their soles into helping the homeless,” raising over $11,000 for City Union Mission.
Karen Whitson, coordinator of the event, said, “We put this event on to give back to our city by supporting City Union Mission. Giving to others is a great way to show thanks for all the blessings we have received. We also want to promote health and encourage families to create healthy habits together.”
Everyone was also encouraged to donate new or “gently worn” men’s, women’s, and children’s tennis shoes for City Union Mission’s clients.
Sponsors and contributors included Midland Adventist Academy, Bukaty Companies, 1030 The Light, Calvary 88.5, KCCV 92.3 FM & 760 AM, New Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church, Rush Properties, Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Smoothie King, Think Fit Foundation, Great Harvest Bread Company, Dick's Sporting Goods, Cash4Houses, Gerald D. Whitson-CPA, LLC, Mardel Christian Education & Supply, Timeless Images and McCowan Gordon Construction.
