(KANSAS CITY, MO), September 7, 2005. To assist rescue missions impacted by Hurricane Katrina, City Union Mission has made a specially provided $20,000 donation to the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions (AGRM). This will be used by the AGRM to help Gulf area rescue missions rebuild and continue much-needed rescue ministry to the poorest of the poor.
City Union Mission will also provide shelter for as many hurricane victims as possible.
“We want to do whatever we can to help. Our hearts go out to the victims, and our goal is to help them get reestablished,” said City Union Mission’s Executive Director, Dan Doty. “We see lives restored in Kansas City every day, and we want to offer them hope.”
Area churches are invited to utilize City Union Mission’s campgrounds at Camp CUMCITO in Warsaw, Missouri (City Union Mission’s Camp in the Ozarks) as a relocation center, offering temporary housing until individual churches can make more permanent arrangements for their adopted families. There is currently space for 23 families and 24 children without guardians. Children without guardians will be assigned a case manager, who will attempt to reunite them with their parent(s), and place them in school.
Although City Union Mission’s Family Center (1310 Wabash, Kansas City, MO) and Men’s Center (1108 E. 10th St., Kansas City, MO) are nearly full, these locations will offer shelter to as many hurricane victims as possible.
Additional donated funds will be needed, which will pay for meals and up to 9 months of housing, in a setup similar to an apartment. Families will receive case management, including assistance finding jobs and permanent housing in the area.
For churches that wish to adopt a family, please email dena@cumission.org or mail your special relief gift to 1100 E. 11th St., Kansas City, MO 64106. Donations are tax-deductible. |
