Camp Activities Continue; Campers Visit Truman Lake
Crafts teach campers how to design, paint, stuff, and trim 'Memory Boards'
July 05, 2007

Thursday began slower for most due to the exciting night before. The Fourth of July was celebrated by the camp with a pool party and some fireworks. The girls did not make it to bed until late into the night. They still needed to wake up fairly early though because their day was going to be an exciting one.

The morning picked up as the girls began their morning rotations. While the ladies in Mosaics finished their project by planting the flowers into the beds, Crafts was helping to catch the memories at camp while they were fresh.

Crafts for the week allowed each camper to construct a padded ‘memory board’ for their room at home. They designed, painted, stuffed, hammered and trimmed their board. Each camper had a camera to take photos of their choice. The photos were then developed and each girl got to choose which ones she would display on her board.

Traditionally, everyone loads into a bus for a picnic and afternoon at a sandy beach on Truman Lake. However, due to the excess rain and the very high water level of the camp's lake, the girls were able to spend the whole afternoon at Camp CUMCITO. They had fun canoeing, fishing, swimming and jumping on the lake trampoline. Then we loaded the bus and went to a Truman Lake covered pavilion for a picnic dinner.

The girls were fascinated by how high the water level was; completely covering the beach they are used to going to. Everyone returned to camp for ice cream sundaes before chapel and devotions. Camp got quiet fairly fast at lights out after a busy day.
