What a day! This morning started a little earlier than most. One of the cabins choose “The Camp Out” as an optional activity and at 5:45 AM the recreation staff was up and on their way down to pick up the campers from the lake. It was a nice and crisp morning. The lake had a slight fog sweeping across it as the sun was just peeking out of the cloud cover above.
Recreation staff and counselors rousted the campers out of the tents and loaded them up in the van to get them up to the showers and breakfast on time. The camp was blessed by a 5 minute shower which was just enough to knock the heat of the day down slightly. After a classic breakfast of bacon and eggs, everyone sang their hearts out at chapel.
The boys then left for their morning activity at the lake. This is always a favorite involving the lake trampoline and canoes. At the same time, the girls had the pool to themselves. It was a time full of laughs and lots of giggles. A couple of girls even ventured off the diving board after proclamations of never, ever, jumping off a diving board.
Another favorite meal was served for lunch today - Taco Salad! The campers went crazy for Taco Salad. As the campers finished lunch, the dunk tank was being filled up for the annual junior week carnival. You could see their anticipation for tomorrow’s carnival in their eyes. Speaking of carnival, boats were being painted and assembled in the craft hall for a Friday boat exhibition.

The craft hall was also busy with pillows being made and stuffed. Some were flowery and some camouflaged. As always, the campers all swam for an hour this afternoon, with more jumping off of the board and lots of them swimming to the bottom searching for dive rings. The canteen served lots of pickles and snow cones with a little rest and free time mixed in.
Fried Chicken is the absolute favorite meal of junior camp and was served this evening. Green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, and homemade dinner rolls completed the feast. Nothing was left over. This evening's optional activities included baking cookies and food games, water balloons, geo-caching, s’mores, archery and lake trampoline.

All of the fun evening activities was followed by another great night at chapel. The campers seemed to be extra excited and loud during worship, which was surely related to the wonderful meal served for dinner. They were truly singing glory and thanks to God.
In Act Four of this evening's kit, Tanesha’s old ways came back to haunt her, but she was forgiven and asked to become a permanent part of the foster family. Showers and devotions ended another excellent day here at camp CUMCITO. |
