(KANSAS CITY, MO) January 22, 2003. This Sunday, January 26th, at City Union Mission, Kansas City’s homeless will have the opportunity to watch as the Oakland Raiders and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers battle for the NFL’s top prize.
Dan Doty, executive director at City Union Mission states, “We want homeless men and families to be able to enjoy what so many of us take for granted. The Super Bowl gives us a unique opportunity to show them that we care, that they do matter. Special events like these, where they hear the testimony of national athletes encourages them toward permanent stability which includes having a vital relationship with Jesus Christ.”
Over 250 men will devour a Super Bowl party feast complete with pizza and chilidogs. Quick Trip donated Tombstone pizzas, Sonic gave chilidogs and Pepsi supplied all Pepsi products.
At halftime a gospel video called “Power to Win” will be shown. This video includes the testimonies of Aeneas Williams with the St. Louis Rams, Darren Woodson with the Dallas Cowboys, and Darrel Green with the Washington Red Skins. |
