Weston Celebrates 170 Years by Sharing With Less Fortunate
October 26, 2007

In celebration of its 170th anniversary, the town of Weston is giving back to their community each weekend through their November Holidays: Sharing 170 Years of Main Street.  November 3rd and 4th local businesses will join together with City Union Mission to help provide winter protection for the area’s homeless.

You are encouraged to help through donations of new, or gently used, scarves, mittens, gloves, hats or winter boots for men, women and children. A November Holidays booth will be set up on Main Street to accept donations and provide information about the weekend’s events. All those who donate will receive a special thank you gift.

During the month of November, business owners in downtown Weston will revisit different eras in the town’s history. Each weekend will feature entertainment and activities focused on a specific time period from the last 170 years, as well as partnership with a local philanthropy to help the community during the holiday season.

The weekend of November 3rd and 4th they will be celebrating the Antebellum and Civil War years.
“Our community would not exist without the generosity of our residents,” explains November Holidays chairwoman, Andrea Lewark, owner of Nelson & Taylor Interiors in Weston. “As we celebrate the holidays, and this local milestone, we want to do something for this great community.”

According to Shawna Ketter, Corporate Relations and Procurement Specialist for City Union Mission, events like these are crucial to meeting the needs of the area’s homeless.   “We wouldn’t be able to provide all the services we do without the help of those in our community,” says Shawna. “This event is going to make a real difference for those in need.”

More information about the month’s activities can be found by clicking here, or calling the Weston Chamber of Commerce at (816) 640-2909.
