City Union Mission’s Celebration Of Love
November 08, 2005
(KANSAS CITY, MO)  City Union Mission will hold it’s 20th annual Celebration of Love, an opportunity for the community to provide holiday food for Kansas City’s poor and homeless, on Saturday, November 19, 2005 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1108 East 10th Street, Kansas City, MO (corner of 10th and Troost).  Please bring turkeys, hams, canned goods, and monetary donations.  Tours and refreshments will be provided, as well as an opportunity to have your picture taken by a professional photographer for $10.  Participants will receive a CD of photos taken.  The first annual City Union Mission Hog Calling Contest will also take place.  Compete with City Union Mission’s Director of Community Relations and Former National Hereford Hog Queen and Former Monroe County Hog Calling Champion, Sandy Baldwin, for $5.  All funds raised go towards meeting the needs of the poor and homeless of Kansas City.

This event is held during National Hunger and Homeless Awareness week, an annual weeklong campaign held nationally since 1988, aimed at encouraging Americans to find ways they can better assist the homeless and poor.

The food collected is used in holiday food baskets and in holiday meals served at City Union Mission.  Financial donations enable City Union Mission to continue caring for those in need.  CELEBRATE HOPE – Reach Out to KC’s Poor and Homeless campaign is an effort to raise $2.9 million dollars, nearly half of the Mission’s annual budget, by January 15, 2006.  Currently, financial donations are down $80,000.  All (tax deductible) financial donations are greatly needed and appreciated.

Prior to event—Sandy Baldwin is available to give a sneak preview of her winning hog call.

Best Photo Opportunity: Saturday, November 19, 2005 11:30 to 2 p.m.

Location: City Union Mission Men’s Center:  1108 E 10th Street; Kansas City, MO 64106.
