City Union Mission’s Executive Director, Dan Doty says, “Our Celebrate Hope Campaign goal to raise $3.5 million, half our annual budget by January 31, is running well behind last year. An additional $589,787 is needed within the next day I would think that increased energy cost is one of the contributing factors. But we are particularly concerned because we’re coming into another period where extreme cold has been forecasted. Thursday evening, Dec. 27th, we had 340 men staying in our men’s shelter, with only 248 beds. You can imagine how stressful this overcrowding is for our guests.”
“Kansas Citians’ generosity is simply unmatched. They have always been there for the poor and homeless. We are so grateful to the many caring donors who partner with us. Because of you lives’ are first rescued, then rebuilt. You enable us to reach out to the community in order to help prevent homelessness as well. Thank you,” explained Doty.
Because City Union Mission never turns any man away needing shelter, funds raised from the Celebrate Hope Campaign are critical in ensuring the ongoing work.
