You have an opportunity to pass on the Word of God to Kansas City's poor and homeless. The Men's Shelter, Family Shelter, Community Assistance and Camp CUMCITO go through more than 600 bibles in just one year. .jpg) Becky Grant, Community Assistance Administrator remembers a special story about a donated Bible:
A client asked for a Bible. We had a couple of used ones in the closet and I gave her a choice. She picked the one with a leather cover even though it was obviously used and somewhat worn.
When I saw the client again, she thanked me over and over for the Bible saying that it was truly a blessing to have her own copy of the Word of God...she continued to marvel at the old Bible and the notes from the "precious saint" who had owned it previously. She said that the notes were a real testimony to her and helped her to understand the scriptures better. Then she pulled from her bag the old Bible and began to show me the notes from the previous owner. However, I noticed that there were newer entries in the margins and asked her about them. She humbly replied that there were some things about the scriptures that she wanted to leave for her children to read after her.
I could hardly hold back the tears as I thought of the "precious saint" that had taken notes in the margins of a Bible and that very Bible was now being cherished and perhaps would be one day handed to yet another person to cherish--with notes from two "precious saints."
