In January of 2008 Dennis Chapman, Associate Executive Director of Development, spoke at Eagle Heights Baptist School chapel service. He challenged their students to collect pillows so that each man on the Christian Life Program would have a brand new one when they move into the new facility.

They took the challenge and 6 weeks later about 70 students brought 120 pillows to City Union Mission. “When I got the call I was thrilled,” said Dennis. “We decided to take them on a tour of the new facility, which is now scheduled to open March 17th, barring anymore issues. We had hoped the first night for the men would be March 13th, but had to push it back when exterior doors had not arrived. You have to expect some of that.”
“We’re proud of the kids. They did a great job of getting into this and started building a pillow wall in one of the classrooms. In no time at all we had over 100 pillows. This was important to do to help refocus the kids on what Christ has done for them…and that wrong choices lead to defeat. It also is part of instilling in them a spirit of giving, and an attitude of servant-hood,” said Glen Booth, parent.

Brandon, one of the Christian Life Clients, graciously told a bit about himself and what the mission means to him. When asked if they would commit to praying for Brandon over the next 30 days most every hand went up.
Rachel, one of the students had this to say, “This has been very interesting. I’ve felt sort of burdened for these people. Coming here really makes you aware. There are so many people who need help. I’m going to pray for Brandon.”
The new facility will house 100 men on the Christian Life Program. We want to do as much as we can to ensure that every man is victorious. So with that in mind a team is working on forming a new discipleship program where each man on the program will have a man from out in the community committed to praying with and for a client for the duration of his stay at the mission. Please join us in praying for the team as they work out all the details.
