News at City Union Mission

Thank You Zona Rosa
Change for Charity
June 25, 2008

The Zona Rosa Community Foundation selected City Union Mission to be one of six charities to aid in 2008 with their program, “Change for Charity.”

"Just six organizations are designated each year to receive a portion of the proceeds from the parking meters at Zona Rosa, the popular mixed-use shopping, dinning and entertainment venue in the Northland. All organizations are evaluated primarily to support youth and families in the greater Kansas City area," said Rosemary Salerno, General Manager for Zona Rosa.

As a recipient, we were featured for two months at Zona Rosa and afforded opportunities to share our message, including Zona Rosa customer newsletters, displays, and LCD screens. The cash donation from Change for Charity was based on the total parking meter receipts at Zona Rosa during March and April 2008.

Dan Doty, Executive Director, comments, “We really didn’t have any expectations so when the check for $5,643.01 came in we were very pleased. That translates to about 2,822 meals. And that’s critical right now because we, along with rescue missions across the nation, are experiencing a 20% increase in the need for services, especially food, while at the same time donations are dropping. We are grateful to the Zona Rosa Community Foundation and commend them for their care for those less fortunate.”
