On Tuesday, January 5th, City Union Mission was the recipient of nearly $10,000 worth of ground beef, sausage patties, pork roasts and other protein-laden and nutritional food items from Vance Publishing’s food360° division in conjunction with the Kansas City Airport Hilton.

“We feel very blessed to have been chosen to receive this generous and much-needed contribution,” said the Rev. Daniel J. Doty, City Union Mission’s executive director. “People come to the Mission with so many needs, but the biggest request we receive-no matter what time of year-is for food.” Doty said the demand for food assistance continues to grow as jobs are cut or lost throughout the metro area and incomes no longer cover essential needs.
Food360° Vice President/Publishing Director Cliff Becker believes this type of activity can make a positive difference in the community. “We’ve all lived and benefited by our hardworking agricultural community, and we want to give back during this tough economic time,” he said, explaining the gift was made on behalf of the division’s clients and audience.
City Union Mission serves more than 330,000 meals to hungry men, women and children throughout the metro every year at its emergency shelters and long-term recovery centers. In addition, the Mission also distributes food boxes each month through its Community Assistance Program.
