(KANSAS CITY, MO) City Union Mission will take approximately 15 children from low-income families to the LensCrafters® in Independence Mall the morning of Tuesday, December 6, 2005 for free eye glasses in honor of LensCrafters® annual "Home Town Day," an effort to assist those who cannot afford eye care.
LensCrafters® provided free eye exams for the children on November 16, 2005. Children chosen for this opportunity are currently enrolled in City Union Mission's after-school programs, which offer activities, tutoring, and life-skills classes for children from low-income households.
A manager at LensCrafters®' Independence Mall location, Ryan Cansler, said, "We are excited about helping those who couldn't normally afford it. We are thrilled that the kids will be able to see, and hopefully do better in school."
Mary Gonzalez, City Union Mission's youth program coordinator, is thankful for this opportunity, along with families of the children.
"Parents have commented on how grateful they are for their children to receive a free eye exam and opportunity for free glasses. Those of us working at City Union Mission hope that children with poor eyesight and poor performance in school will be able to see better, behave better, and perform better with glasses that are just right for them," said Gonzalez.
CELEBRATE HOPE - Reach Out to KC's Poor and Homeless campaign is an effort to raise $2.9 million dollars, nearly half of the Mission's annual budget, by January 15, 2006. The Mission is thankful for the $733,000 that has been donated towards the goal, although it is still $18,000 behind schedule. Tax-deductible monetary donations are greatly needed and appreciated. |
