Every person who passes through the doors of City Union Mission has a unique story to tell - every man, every woman, and every child. Some stories are gripping, some are interesting, and some are heartwarming, while others are heartbreaking.
We have captured several stories that may change the way you view homelessness forever. Here is your chance to take a glimpse into the lives of a few of our precious clients, volunteers, and donors. My mom, a gambler and an alcoholic, used to drop me at different people’s houses when she went out to party. She didn’t know about the abuse I suffered at the hands of her so-called friends. To cope, I turned to sex, drugs and alcohol.
I fell hard for a man who abused me. He was the drug I couldn’t kick. I knew if I stayed with him, my depression would intensify and one of my suicide attempts might take. So I packed up my girls and moved to Kansas City.
I married a man who promised to take care of me. Turned out he lied about everything. When we split, I bounced between shelters and hotels.
Finally I came to City Union Mission and I learned about Jesus. Once I accepted Christ, my depression dissolved and I began to believe in myself. He has completely transformed my life. With Jesus as my Savior, I now have hope and a future.
