Mission Moments - Snapshots from the Soul
Every person who passes through the doors of City Union Mission has a unique story to tell - every man, every woman, and every child. Some stories are gripping, some are interesting, and some are heartwarming, while others are heartbreaking.
We have captured several stories that may change the way you view homelessness forever. Here is your chance to take a glimpse into the lives of a few of our precious clients, volunteers, and donors. We hope you will take a minute to engross yourself in these powerful testimonies. Please place yourself in their shoes, and join them in their past sorrows as well as their newfound joy.
Angela
For years, I felt abandoned by God. Physical and sexual abuse as a child led me to start using Meth — it eased the pain. I got pregnant at fourteen and moved in with the baby’s father, even though he abused me. We had two more children. I finally left him when I discovered he was cheating on me.
I started using drugs all the time. I married Tim and hoped things would get better. But then our son Tyler was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Tim and I fought a lot and one night the police came. They took our children away, our house went into foreclosure, and I lost my job. That’s when Tim suggested we come to City Union Mission.
I resisted help until a shelter manager, Linda, came into my life. Linda glowed. She was the happiest person I’d ever met. She told me I needed to sober up and allow myself to feel the pain.
Trusting in Jesus has changed everything for us. We have regained custody of all of our kids, our marriage is stronger, and soon we will be living on our own. I now understand that God can restore anyone and forgive their past – even mine!
It doesn't matter what you've done or where you've been...you're past can be forgiven like Angela's. Click here to find out how!
