Mission Moments - Snapshots from the Soul

Every person who passes through the doors of City Union Mission has a unique story to tell - every man, every woman, and every child. Some stories are gripping, some are interesting, and some are heartwarming, while others are heartbreaking.

We have captured several stories that may change the way you view homelessness forever. Here is your chance to take a glimpse into the lives of a few of our precious clients, volunteers, and donors. We hope you will take a minute to engross yourself in these powerful testimonies.  Please place yourself in their shoes, and join them in their past sorrows as well as their newfound joy.

Even though my mom taught me Biblical values, I didn’t want anything to do with God. I used to say, “What right do these Christians have to tell us what we can and can’t do?”

For years, I worked as a monitor at an abortion clinic. I helped keep the girls in and the protesters out. A man showed up every Saturday to preach about Christ. Eventually, his words convicted me. One morning, I woke up and couldn’t go back to the clinic.

Some days I’d turn my radio to a Christian station. My heart began to soften so much that one Sunday I went to church. A week later, I gave my life to Christ.

I suffered many heartbreaks over the next few years. My son died in Afghanistan, an injury caused me to lose my job, I had a heart attack, and I lost the woman I loved. I nose-dived into depression and found myself on suicide watch in a psyche ward. Then, a friend told me about City Union Mission. It was there that I learned to take responsibility for my life and grew better equipped to serve the Lord.

I now work with an outreach ministry designed to teach youth about celibacy and care for postabortive mothers and fathers. I’m not sure what God has planned next, but I’m ready for the ride!

Broken-hearts and shattered dreams can only begin to mend through the love of Jesus. Click here to find out where healing begins.
